Olcott, Jones carry local races, The Community News, 07 March 2024

Data from the Texas Secretary of State’s website showed youth pastor Brandon Hall beat retired educator Patricia Hardy in District 11 by around six percentage points—53.24 percent to 46.76 percent.

Hardy has been a member of the SBOE from the Fort Worth-area district for over 20 years.

A last-minute infusion of cash helped Weatherford Republican Brandon Hall to unseat incumbent Pat Hardy for the GOP nomination for a State Board of Education seat.

About 3.2 million Texans voted in the state’s primary election, down from 4.1 million during the 2020 presidential primary. Democratic turnout accounted for the entirety of the decline.

The Associated Press declared David Schenck, Gina Parker and Lee Finley won their races over Judges Sharon Keller, Barbara Hervey and Michelle Slaughter respectively. Presiding Judge Keller was first elected to the bench in 1994.

Insurgent Republicans make major gains in Texas primaries, The Texas Tribune, 06 March 2024

The shockwaves rippled up and down the ballot as incumbent state House members, judges and other state leaders were forced into runoffs or defeated outright.

The primaries were a mix of ego, personality and policy — and in many cases it was hard to suss out how much each factor played in individual campaigns. In some races, such as the defeats of GOP House members Hugh Shine, Glenn Rogers and Steve Allison, the incumbent was opposed by both Paxton and Abbott.

Among those candidates who appeared to have lost outright: Steve Allison of San Antonio, Ernest Bailes of Shepherd, Travis Clardy of Nacogdoches, Jill Dutton of Ben Wheeler, Jacey Jetton of Richmond, Glenn Rogers of Graford, Hugh Shine of Temple, Reggie Smith of Sherman and Kronda Thimesch of Lewisville

Incumbent state House Republicans who lost their primary election Tuesday night, targeted as anti-school choice, were:

Steve Allison (HD-121), defeated by Marc LaHood;

Ernest Bailes (HD-18), defeated by Janis Holt;

Rep. Travis Clardy (HD-11), defeated by Joan Shofner;

Glenn Rogers (HD-60), defeated by Mike Olcott;

Hugh Shine (HD-55), defeated by Hillary Hickland;

Reggie Smith (HD-62), defeated by Shelley Luther.
