Updates on the Parks of Willow Park, February 2025 Parks Board Meeting Review.

The best review of the Parks in Willow Park was from Bill Henning, an enviable neighbor "in his 94th year" who walks the paths at the Kings Gate Park for several hours a day, "365 days a year, rain or shine." Bill attended the February 2025 Parks Board Meeting just to tell the Board and the City how much he appreciated those walking paths.

During the Informational Agenda Item [1], Mandy McCarley, Director of Parks and Recreation, gave an update on the activities in the five (5) Willow Park Parks • Kings Gate Park and Trails • Pfc. Paul Balint Jr. Memorial Park • Cross Timber Park and Demonstration Garden • Willow Park Wildscape (Deer Park).

All Parks

• This week will begin tree and bush pruning in all of the Parks, except the Wildscape.

Fire ant treatment is being applied to all five Parks. One application should last for a year. However, Ms. McCarley asked that if you see any active ant hills in any of the Parks, please contact her. [2]

Kings Gate Park and Trails

• A new stone sign was installed for Memorial Park. [3]

• Several Board Members commented on new safety features and signs on the dirt bike trails. And Larry Colvin, Senior Design Engineer with Baird, Hampton & Brown, was present to answer questions.

Memorial Park

Two new trash cans, similar to those across the street in Cross Timbers Park, will be installed.

• A double-sided sign was installed for Memorial Park.

• A home-school groups has chosen Memorial Park for their civics project; the will be cleaning and weeding the park and painting the flower pots.

• Several Board Members commented on the significant improvements to Memorial Park over the last three months and thanked Ms. McCarley for managing the changes.

The newly appointed Parks Board was presented as follows:

Lea Young, Ex-Officio Member – Place 1

Corey Tucker – Place 2

Barry Noggle – Place 3

Ever Gomez – Place 4

JD DeLaFuente – Place 5

Cynthia White – Place 6

Jerry Vierling - Alternate

In addition, the Parks Board started a discussion on the results and uses of the City's January FlashVote Parks Survey [4], which gathered Citizen opinions and suggestions about improvements to Kings Gate Park and Trails. Here is the portion of the FlashVote Survey Results that was shared with those who took the Survey.
