Work began 28 November 2022 on Phase One (1) of the Willow Park Comprehensive Street Improvement Project, which is expected to be completed the beginning of December 2023. Four (4) roads will be reconstructed with concrete: Crown Road; Sam Bass Road; Ranch House Road; Kings Gate Road. In addition, eleven (11) roads will be improved with asphalt on reconstructed road foundations. posted December 2022

The neighbors who live on Crown Road and adjacent Ranch House Road in Willow Park have spent most of 2024, speaking during Council Meetings, submitting petitions, and demanding attention from the City, all to restore the form and function of their properties damaged or changed by the City's Street Improvement Project.

The updated 511DFW Travel Information System, launched 04 November 2024; it's free, also available for iOS and Android devices, available in English and Spanish, and includes traffic speeds, toll lane facilities, traffic signals, highway incidents, construction zones, EV charging stations, off-road walk and bike paths, traffic camera snapshots and special events.

Willow Park has contracted with Infrastructure Management Services (IMS) for the 2024 Pavement Condition Assessment, through the North Texas SHARE Purchasing Program. The IMS project will "include driving all concrete and asphalt streets in the City... and producing an updated and in-depth understanding of current road infrastructure."

New Port-to-Plains Interstate, Growth from the West, Update October 2024, Willow Park Civics Blog, posted 04 October 2024

Think again, if you think all the growth is from the east. In September 2024, the Texas Transportation Commission designated a segment of the state highway system in Lubbock County as Interstate 27, officially bringing another portion of the Ports-to-Plains Corridor into the Interstate System. • Summary: Since the new Port-to-Plains I27 will intersect with I20 about 240 miles west of Willow Park, this will have a major impact, during the next several decades, on Willow Park and on the region of Parker County that surrounds I20. Growth will come to Willow Park from the east and from the west. Details in linked blog.

North Texas leaders plan to urge state legislators to create a statewide high-speed rail authority with eminent domain powers to support and coordinate efforts to build bullet train routes to Fort Worth, Arlington, Dallas, Houston and possibly other areas.

Willow Park does not have roundabout traffic circles, but neighbors Hudson Oaks, Aledo, and Weatherford do. And TXDoT says there are around 500 across Texas and more are coming. According to TXDoT roundabouts are significantly safer than intersections. So during National Roundabout Week, 16 to 20 September 2024, head over to our neighbors and practice roundabout-ing, just in case... Details in linked blog.

Tarrant County leaders said they plan to lobby the state Legislature to provide millions of dollars for more funding for needed transit projects, including basic maintenance for local highways.

“We are soon to be the third-largest metro region in the country. … We have to have transit to get Texans across Texas, period,” Parker said of the division between Tarrant and Dallas officials over progress on high-speed rail.

New alternative for the DFW to Houston high-speed rail project. Willow Park Civics, posted 16 August 2024

During July, the Dallas City Council opposed a proposed elevated line through the City’s downtown. However by August, Dallas and North Central Texas Council of Governments, who recently added $1.2M to the DFW - Houston high-speed rail project, started considering an alternative route from Fort Worth along Interstate 30 and around downtown Dallas.

Bike Rules for Texas Roads and Willow Park Trails, Willow Park Civics Blog, posted 08 August, 2024

With the new emphases on biking in Willow Park, all bikers need to realize they have the same responsibilities and public road rules as do motorized vehicle drivers. In addition, there are Rules for Safety and Outdoor Ethics for all Willow Park and Weatherford Mountain Bike Club trails.  Keep trails open by setting a good example of environmentally sound and socially responsible trail use.

Work on DFW high-speed train slows down. Willow Park Civics, posted 01 July 2024

The proposal to connect Dallas, Arlington and Fort Worth with high-speed rail will move forward despite a resolution from the Dallas City Council that opposes a proposed elevated line through the city’s downtown and adjacent areas. Not to worry, "Transportation disputes have long marked Fort Worth and Dallas’ relationship, starting in 1876..."

For the fourth Council Meeting in a row, Citizens addressed the Council with their requests for the City to keep its promises made during the 2022 Street Improvement Project: to put the function of their driveways, bar ditches, and city easements back the way they were before the City's "Street Improvements." As reply, the City has developed new driveway standards, but current Willow Park private driveways are anything but standard.

High-speed rail could be a reality in coming years, but success requires the completion of separate high-speed rail projects designed to connect, forming a system of travel from Arlington or Fort Worth to Houston with no need to change trains.

"My mother taught me to leave things better than I found them, but we are not experiencing that from you guys." A good summary of the issues that are plaguing many of those who live along the latest Willow Park street construction project. But this time the voices are loud enough to get the City's attention. Add your name and concerns to the list of corrections. Note: Willow Park Civics is about Willow Park but is NOT associated with or managed by the City of Willow Park.

North Central Texas, including Parker County, is using its federal EPA "green" money on "air quality issues related to transportation." Solutions include incentives for electric vehicles and hydrogen fuel vehicles. Details in linked blog.

Parker County is the sixth fastest growing county in the US, and as Fort Worth inches closer to a million residents, Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Weatherford, and Parker County are working together to find ways to move people and goods efficiently across the community while attracting new job opportunities that bring in jobs.
