Call for feedback from Crown Rd Neighborhood about Crown Rd Speed Humps. WP 2022 Street Improvement Project.

The Crown Road Neighborhood, who have spent most of 2024 working with the City to restore the form and function of their properties damaged or changed by the City's Street Improvement Project, have sent a letter (below) requesting feedback, from Crown Road residents only, about the newly installed Speed Humps on Crown Road in Willow Park.

Dear Neighbor -

On behalf of our neighborhood group, Teresa and I would like to get your feedback about the speed humps on Crown. We have heard that some of you are not satisfied with the City's decision to place only 3 speed humps, instead of the 7 originally directed by City Council on June 11th this year.  We would like to know if you would like to have all 7 humps installed per original decision – or if the 3 that have been installed are getting the job done to enforce the speed limit on Crown Rd.

Please send us your feedback, along with your name and address, to either Eric Hoopes or Teresa Palmer, whose email addresses have been distributed to our neighborhood via written letter delivered to your door. Or deliver your reply to our home addresses below our valediction. Please respond by Sunday Oct 20th.

We would like to hear from as many people as possible who live on Crown to properly gauge overall sentiment before we take it to City Staff and/or Council.  If you would like to provide any details that support your position, that would be very helpful information for us as well.

Speaking with City Manager Grimes, we understand the City's plan is to have Willow Park Police Department monitor speeds now that these 3 speed humps have been installed to determine whether or not more are required to enforce the speed limit along Crown Rd in its entirety.  City management acknowledges the reasoning behind Council's decision from June 11th to install 7 humps and has stated that they will continue to engage on this matter until Council's intent to enforce the speed limit on Crown Rd is met.

*** Your feedback is very valuable to those discussions and decisions.  While speed data from Willow Park's mobile speed detection trailer tells one piece of the story, your perspective as a resident is incredibly valuable. ***

Teresa and I will share with you what we collect over the next week, and then plan to present feedback to City Staff for deliberation. Depending on the feedback we receive, we may have an opportunity to engage City Council directly at the next meeting scheduled for Tuesday, October 22nd.

Again, thank you very much for your time and help with this!  We look forward to hearing from you this week.

Respectfully,

Eric Hoopes Teresa Palmer

Willow Park Sources and Resources

The neighbors who live on Crown Road and adjacent Ranch House Road in Willow Park have spent most of 2024, speaking during a half dozen Council Meetings, submitting several petitions, and demanding attention from the City, all to restore the form and function of their properties damaged or changed by the City's Street Improvement Project. Here are October - September 2024 emails from neighbors to neighbors, updating the City's actions. Details in linked blog.

On 26 September, 2024, the City of Willow Park posted a Road Work Notice indicating the installation of the Crown Road Speed Humps will be started and completed on 27 September, 2024. The original plan was to install seven Crown Road Speed Humps in order to calm the traffic speed to the posted 30 mph.  However, the City subsequently changed the number of Crown Road Speed Humps from seven to three, and then monitor and reevaluate as needed.

Brake It or Break It. New Speed Humps for Willow Park., Willow Park Civics Blog, posted 17 June 2024

The new cement streets in Willow Park are tempting drivers beyond that which they can bear -- and some bear down our 30 mph residential streets at 80 mph. Thanks to Willow Park Citizens, who keep bringing the problem to the City, the Willow Park Council has approved a new Speed Hump Policy and are starting installation of Speed Humps on Crown Road.
