09 to 10 November 2021 - email conversation between Willow Park council member and Willow Park citizen (reverse chronology)

  • 5. Nov 10, 2021 at 4:24 PM, from Council Member: I can’t speak to what the group was told before because I wasn’t part of communications with staff and the card room group. In October, our attorney provided a letter to the group which outlined the requirements for obtaining a specific use permit in order to obtain a certificate of occupancy.

  • 4. November 10, 2021 at 4:01 PM, from Willow Park citizen: Thanks for the response. I’m curious as to why the special use permit wasn’t required before. The amusement ordinance as it’s written opens the door to poker rooms. How was a requirement of a special use permit added after staff approved the poker room? Wouldn’t that requirement have to happen in open session?

  • 3. November 10, 2021, at 3:49 PM, from Council Member: Any card room type of operation would require a Special Use Permit, which would go through P&Z and council. The group that was interested in starting a card room in Willow Park has been informed of that requirement, and to my knowledge (as of today), the city has not heard anything from the group regarding their interest in pursuing a permit.

  • 2. November 9, 2021 5:22 PM from Willow Park citizen: Thank you for the prompt response. How does the city plan on keeping out a poker room in the meantime?

  • 1. November 9, 2021, at 3:42 PM, from Council Member: Thank you for reaching out. I have asked staff to provide an update for several ordinances within our Code and it is my understanding that staff is working to present all of these ordinances at the same time. After speaking with Betty Chew, the staff believes that they will have these ready around the timeframe of the January council meeting.
